Communicating from and with the margins

International conference on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Catholic Media Council (CAMECO)

28th and 29th November, 2019
at Bischöfliche Akademie, Aachen (Germany)

„The Church must go to the margins, to the limits of human existence", says Pope Francis in his apostolic exhortation “Evangelii Gaudium” (2013), calling for action "beyond a simple welfare mentality" that "attacks the structural causes of inequality."

This approach has always been in the focus of many CAMECO partners.

On the occasion of our 50th anniversary, media specialists from all over the world come together for the conference “Communicating from and with the margins.”

In the opening session Sister Mary John Mananzan (Philippines) demonstrates how to successfully fight for human rights issues with media work.

In fifteen workshops, media practitioners share their experiences and approaches, in order to discuss the lessons learned and the challenges ahead, especially:

  • How can media projects better address the needs of marginalised groups?
  • How can communication initiatives become more sustainable?
  • How can good practices be upscaled?
