Setting clear objectives and aspiring to sustainability

”Extended“ planning workshop with social communication offices in Myanmar

At the suggestion of missio Aachen, the Director of the national Office for Social Communication (OSC) of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Myanmar (CBCM), cooperated with CAMECO to review a three-year Strategic Plan. He invited the heads of the communication offices from all dioceses to an initial planning workshop. During three days, 24 participants analysed their current performance, including challenges they face in their environment, and outlined strategies for improvement.

An exercise in project planning was spontaneously integrated into the workshop, to demonstrate how previously set objectives of the local Church can be supported with communication/media activities – strengthening identity and furthering acceptance and integration of different ethnic groups into society. Parts of this initial planning will be used to support a concrete initiative of the local Caritas.

A first outline of the Strategic Plan 2018-2020 of the OSC was developed together with the Director, presenting objectives and related activities. Indicators and sources of verification for monitoring and evaluation of processes and results were identified. CAMECO was requested to continue the consultancy work to support the partners during the realisation phase.
