CAMECO Hosts Another Successful Edition of the Digital Media Education Training

The online training had 60 participants from 15 different countries in Asia, Africa, and the Americas.

From September 15th to September 20th, 2025, CAMECO, along with Tulip and BEGECA, held the second edition of its Digital Media Education training, where 60 participants from all over the world joined to explore strategies for supporting youth in addressing the digital challenges they face. This training is part of a larger effort by Cameco to build digital capacities within institutions, especially to protect the most vulnerable.

The training took place online via Zoom, and participants came from 15 countries, including India, Haiti, Pakistan, Brazil, Nepal, the Philippines, Uganda, and more. Because of this diverse cohort, the training was multilingual with live interpretations in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese.

The 5-day online training had experts such as Dr. Angela Rinaldi, from the Pontifical Gregorian University (Rome), as well as the talented staff from CAMECO, who spoke about pressing issues and provided tools, such as safeguarding in the digital world, digital wellbeing, building bridges between schools and parents to secure the digital experience of the younger ones, the role of AI in education, and more.

Another interesting aspect of this year’s training was the methodology. Each day was divided into three blocks of presentations and a fourth of mentoring. The presentations consisted of expert input, a Q&A, and a short group discussion led by a mentor. Groups were organized by native language to support high-quality learning and debate. After these segments, a 10-minute wrap-up session allowed participants to share final thoughts.

During the last session of the day, the mentoring, each group developed a strategy to address a digital issue of their choice. The goal was to encourage them to appropriate the topics and strategies to their contexts and needs. The final product was presented on the last day of the training by a representative of each group. Some addressed online cyberbullying and harassment, while others focused on involving parents in children’s digital experiences to foster support and positive outcomes.

After the training, we have received valuable feedback from the participants, particularly appreciating “The relevance of the topics handled, which addressed the 21st century issues” as well as the time given for discussions, coordination, methodology, and the diverse cohort, which nourished the quality of the experience.

The CAMECO staff would like to express their gratitude to BEGECA and Tulip for their financial and logistical support, respectively, and to all the donors, institutions, congregations, and individuals who participated in this year’s training.
