Scholarship Funds

CAMECO currently administers two scholarships that open doors for committed communicators to grow, serve, and lead: the Cardinal Foley Scholarship Fund and the Communication Scholarship Programme for Religious Sisters.

Both initiatives provide opportunities for training and formation in communication and media within the Church, empowering individuals to develop their skills, use communication more effectively, and strengthen the Church’s mission in their communities. While they share this common goal, the two scholarships differ in purpose, target groups, and, at times, regional focus.

Each year, the application cycle runs from the second or third week of December until the last week of February.

Cardinal Foley Scholarship Fund

The Cardinal Foley Scholarship Fund (CFSF) supports the education and living expenses of students from the Global South enrolled in master’s and postgraduate programmes in communication. Since 2012, it has granted around 100 scholarships.

The fund is named in memory of John Patrick Foley, former president of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, honouring his enduring commitment to strengthening the Church’s competence in communication.

The scholarship fund supports professional formation for those who will shape the future of the Church’s mission in communication. It aims to equip Africans and Asians to train future Church communicators in local institutes, faculties, and seminaries, while broadening the pool of qualified clergy and lay leaders to strengthen communication ministries, particularly future national and regional coordinators.

The scholarship fund is coordinated and administered by CAMECO. The screening committee, which awards the scholarships, is currently composed of representatives of the Dicastery for Communication, missio Aachen, Institute of Missiology, USCCB Catholic Communication Campaign, and Renovabis.

Communication Scholarship Programme for Religious Sisters

The Communication Scholarship Programme for Religious Sisters supports the professional formation of religious sisters preparing for leadership roles in media ministries within their congregations in the Global South.

Funded by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation in partnership with the Dicastery for Communication and administered by CAMECO, the programme is endowed with USD 100,000 for the current funding cycle.

It specifically targets talented creatives, communicators, and managers among female religious in congregations, secular institutes, and societies of apostolic life in Africa, Asia, Oceania, Latin America, and Central and Eastern Europe who are preparing to assume key responsibilities in communication ministries.

The scholarship supports graduate, postgraduate, and selected professional programmes in communication-related fields. It aims to strengthen media capacities within women’s congregations and increase the visibility of the vital work carried out by religious sisters worldwide.
